Born January 14th, 1967 in Bayonne, New Jersey, Jeffrey Phillip Wielandt – better known to the world as Zakk Wylde – is a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Recognized for his signature blend of blistering speed, soulful bends, and squealing pinch harmonics, Zakk is most famously known as the long-time guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne, as well as the founder and leader of the heavy metal band Black Label Society.
Zakk’s career truly took off in 1987 when, at just 20 years old, he was chosen as Ozzy Osbourne’s new guitarist following the departure of Jake E. Lee. His first album with Ozzy, No Rest for the Wicked (1988), introduced the world to his ferocious style and towering stage presence. Wylde went on to co-write and perform on some of Ozzy’s most celebrated albums, including No More Tears (1991), which featured the unforgettable guitar work on the title track.
In 1998, Wylde formed Black Label Society, a band that blended heavy riffing with Southern-rock grit, building a massive cult following. Alongside his work with BLS, Zakk has also performed with his side project Pride & Glory, as well as fronting his own solo acoustic material, showcasing his versatility beyond the walls of heavy metal. More recently, he reunited with Ozzy and in 2022 joined Pantera’s surviving members for their tribute tour, cementing his role as one of metal’s most respected and in-demand guitarists.
When it comes to guitars, Wylde is inseparable from his iconic Gibson Les Paul Custom “Bullseye”, though over the years he has wielded an array of custom Gibsons, Epiphones, and his own signature Wylde Audio line. His aggressive playing, heavy vibrato, and unmistakable squeals make him instantly recognizable to guitar fans worldwide.
