Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy) Miniature Guitar Replica
Phil Lynott - Bass Guitar with Silver Scratch Plate.
Philip Parris Lynott was born in Dublin on August 20th 1949 and died in London January 4th 1986. He was one of the first Irish musicians to break out of Ireland's parochial music scene and take his music to a world wide audience. He is best known as chief song writer, bass player and vocalist with influential Rock band Thin Lizzy.
Lynott formed Thin Lizzy in 1969 with Eric Bell and Brian Downey, after he had spent a short time with the band Skid Row which also featured a young up and coming guitar player called Gary Moore. He remained as front man of Thin Lizzy up until illness forced him to break up the band in 1985. Although there have been a few different line ups of Thin Lizzy since Lynott's death in 1986, they were poor imitations without the vocals and bass playing of Phil Lynott.
Although Lynott had a fair bit of success both as a solo artist and also with collaborative projects, it was with Thin Lizzy albums such as Jailbreak, Bad Reputation, Black Rose and the seminal Live And Dangerous that he really made his mark in the world of Rock Music.
Lynott had two main basses that he used with Thin Lizzy through the 70s and into the 80s. His main number one bass was black with a rosewood fingerboard and was built between 1960 - 1962. His other was also black, but with a maple neck and fingerboard and it served mainly as his back-up bass in case of on-stage string breaks. He had the bridges of both basses changed to the more sturdy and reliable Badass models and his famous spotlight reflecting mirror pickguards were made by Mighty Mite. Aside from those modifications, his basses remained pretty much standard.
After his untimely death in 1986, both of Phil Lynott's Bass Guitar were given to his devoted mother, and number one fan, Philomena.
