George Harrison - "Country Gentleman" Miniature Guitar

Born February 25th 1943, George Harrison MBE was the youngest member of undeniably the most influential band the world has ever seen, or is ever likely to see. The impact that The Beatles had on every genre of music that came after them cannot be possibly understated and George Harrison was an integral part of their creative genius.

Harrison, like his band mates Lennon and McCartney, made use of a variety of different instruments depending on what the musical situation called for either on stage or in the studio. He did however have a fondness for Gretsch guitars, using a few of their instruments including Duo Jet and G6122T models.

The G6122T is more commonly known as the Gretsch Chet Atkins Country Gentleman and Harrison purchased the first of his two versions in 1963 and they would be the guitars that he would be seen using on stage most often. Sadly George's first 'Country Gent' would meet a tragic end when it fell from their car on the way to a show in 1965 and was reduced to matchwood by several trucks driving behind them. It is said that when they stopped, a truck driver came up to them carrying the guitar's remains and said 'Oi! Is this banjo anything to do with you lot?'

George's No2 'Country Gent', a black model, would be in his hands when The Beatles made their famous US television appearance on the legendary Ed Sullivan show and would become an iconic instrument as a result.

Like most Gretsch instruments the G6122T is a sealed hollow bodied guitar with simulated F-sound holes. It is fitted with a Bigsby B6GVT vibrato tailpiece which gives excellent tuning stability, even with vigorous use of the vibrato arm. There are a multitude of control knobs and switches giving a seemingly endless palate of tonal variation and pickup combinations. The pickups themselves are a pair of Gretsch patented TV Jones Filter Tron units and are very much part of that distinctive Gretsch sound.

Gretsch have produced various reissues of the original Country Gentleman models and in 2004 they issued a limited number of George Harrison signature versions to mark the 40th anniversary of the Ed Sullivan show appearance.

This is an unlicensed, handmade miniature replica guitar. It is for display purposes only and cannot be played.
